Mod Petlife introduces KoogaTree scARTch to our U.S. Customers
We are excited to partner up with KoogaTree this Winter 2013 to bring our customers a unique piece of art for both cats and their owners. We have not seen any other scratch post with such artistic uniqueness in the market. We have been closely communicating with owner Simon and Helena to answer all consumer questions.
The following is an interview with the company's owner:
Who are KoogaTree?
KoogaTree is a family-run British business founded by myself (Helena) and my husband, Simon. It is a world where original, high impact, quality cat funiture is a reality. Our ethos is at the centre of everything we do and as cat lovers ourselves, we know what cats and their stylish owners need. Our promise is to continually strive to produce fresh, unique concept art to bring together you, your home and your cat. Our products will always be made to the highest standards, as we would expect for Kooga. We also promise to be approachable and fun to work with and put as much love into everything we do as you put into your home and your cat.
Where does the name come from?
Our gorgeous Bengal cat, Kooga, was the inspiration behind KoogaTree. His original KoogaTree was handmade by us on the side of Loch Lomond from a branch of bonfire wood, a few tools from the local hardware store and a bottle of whisky in hand! It quickly became a talking point in our home and something we (and Kooga) truly adored. Kooga loves his tree and is never off it – it’s his vantage point, grooming platform, snoozing spot and climbing frame! Since then we have had another addition to the family, our hilarious Silver Bengal, Sabre. Kooga has had to learn to share all his beloved furniture…we have some great footage of the two of them trying to wrestle each other off their trees! They have loads of fun.
Where do you source your timber?
All our timber is ethically sourced here in the UK This means that the transportation involved in getting it to us to be treated and made into a tree or post is environmentally sound, and we are supporting independent businesses. We are really proud to use only premium British materials and suppliers for every component of our feline furniture, from the bespoke metal fixings to the British artists that create our scARTch designs. We can rest easy in the knowledge that we know exactly where everything comes from, which allows us to guarantee our exceptional quality.
How do you treat your timber?
All our timber is treated with mineral oil. We do lots of research into the design and creation of our products to ensure that your cats will be safe and your KoogaTree furniture will last. Mineral oil is a non-drying oil that will not go hard over time. This is great for timber that may get scratched by mischievous claws as the oil will stay partially liquid and flow into any scratches made by cats. Of course, Mineral Oil is not wet to the touch and offers the following benefits:
• Foo
- Food-safe if your cat sometimes chews wood
- Hypoallergenic
- Won't go rancid or rot over time as many other oils do
- Heat and waterproof
- Greatly enhances the natural grain and beauty of your timber
Very soon we will be stocking KoogaTree Mineral Oil to help you care for your furniture. It is inexpensive, very easy and safe to top up and we recommend an application every six months to keep your KoogaTree products looking as good as new for many many years.
How long can we expect a KoogaTree product to last?
Your KoogaTree furniture is hand-made with love and built to last. Of course, as with any furniture the life span will depend on the usage but with expertly developed construction, our super thick premium rope, solid timber and specially designed fixings you can be sure that you are investing in the Ferrari of cat furniture and will be able to enjoy it for years to come.
How did you come up with your incredible scARTch range?
We wanted to create something that was as visually beautiful for the owner as it was practical for the cat. We teamed up with five fantastic British designers, who created nine high-impact, totally unique designs that we absolutely love and feel encapsulate what KoogaTree is all about. Exclusivity was also important to us as the scARTch posts are luxury, premium quality products. All our scARTch floor art is limited edition, with the exception of the KoogaTree Original which is an official registered design.
Why shouldn’t we settle for a scratching post from a superstore?
We think the clue to this one is in the question: the word “settle”. Time and time again, studies show that cats prefer furniture that is heavy and sturdy, to mimic real trees. This is why they love to scratch your favourite sofa and will often ignore a small post that they have been bought. Cheap scratching posts tend to be made with cardboard or chipboard, with very thin sisal rope for scratching. This results in a flimsy, light post that is easy to move and knock over, with rope that gets ripped to shreds very quickly, especially in multi-cat households! Our furniture is an investment and will save your furniture from your kitty’s claws. Not to mention that it will look truly stunning and is guaranteed to become a talking point in your home. We are on a mission to eradicate all ugly cat furniture and replace it with beautiful items that are built to last.
